A fire consumed a condo on the 25th floor in the luxury building Tremont On the Common at 151 Tremont street today, Sunday April 24th, a little after 12 Noon.
Residents of all the condos in the building were evacuated safely, and the fire was contained shortly after. It was difficult for the fire department to reach the condo, but they manged to contain the fire and save the building and its residents. The fire chief estimates the damage to cost upward of $300,000.
Tremont on the Common is a 28 floor luxury building with 24 hour concierge, fitness center, pool, and a great location facing the Boston Gardens.

Boston luxury rentals for $20,000 or $30,000 per month are now a reality and no longer the exclusive domain of New York City or Los Angeles. The years 2010 and 2011 have witnessed an unprecedented interest in super high end luxury rentals. People are scooping up luxury apartments like no other time I have seen before. I have clients waiting for a 1 or 2 bedroom units to open up at the Mandarin Oriental, The Heritage, The Clarendon, The Belvedere, and the Trinity Place. The Back Bay, Downtown, Beacon Hill, and The South End have seen over 28 super luxury rental deals ranging from $10,000 to $ over $30,000 a month leased out in the last year. However, in 2008-2009, there were only seven luxury rentals in the same price range, and none was even remotely close the 30K price tag we are seeing this spring.
The Mandarin Oriental Boston Condos command the highest rents in the city, breaking all records so far. The two most expensive luxury rentals fetched $30,000 and $31,000 per month. Furthermore, a luxury condo is presently available for rent there for a mere $27,000 per month. The Four Seasons luxury condos and rentals used to command the highest rental prices in Boston, but they seem to have lost an edge, as more luxury clients prefer the newer style condos and luxury apartments in a more central Back Bay location. The Clarendon Luxury condos listed a 3 bedrooms for rent last year for $24,000, but there were no takers then. I am sure things have changed now, and the same luxury rental will not last in this market for long.
Ironically, even in this market, Boston has more demand for super luxury rentals then supply. There are many people out there waiting to move in one of these units once they appear on the market. Now, There are only few super luxury rentals available. For example:
- $27,000 per month unit at the Mandarin Oriental condos.
- Two unit for $25,000 per month at the Ritz Condos.
- $13,500 single family in Beacon Hill.
- $12,000 single family in Beacon Hill.
- 2 brownstones for $12,000 in Back Bay
- $10,000 condo at Trinity Place.
- $11,000 condo at the Four Season’s Condos.

Hotpads.com, a free real estate property search website, announced that it has launched a free application on smart phones running on the Honeycomb version of Google’s Android platform.
Hotpads Android phone Application is similar to the previously published free app for iPad tablets. Furthermore, an updated version of the first iPhone app was also released.
Hotpads has over four million users, and more and more of them are using their smart phones to search for real estate properties.

Zillow Buys Postlets.com

Zillow.com, a real estate valuation and search site, bought the site Postlets.com, a free listing syndication platform very popular with real estate agents. No one is sure what the merger will mean to the hundreds of thousands of users of Postlets.com. Zillow claims that it plans no changes to the daily operations and rules of Postlets.com and its users.
Postlets.com is a platform for real estate agents and others, allowing them to advertise their sale and/or rental listings for free mostly, or for a optional fee. The site allows free detailed description as well as up to 6 quality pictures with free ads. It syndicates its ads to over 13 other real estate and social media websites throughout the country. Trulia.com, Zillow.com and its partner Yahoo.com are 3 famous examples.
Postlets.com boasts about five hundred thousand registered members who usually list around 350,000 ads on its site. Postlets.com was created in the year 05.
